Serving Christ Through the Eucharist
An Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC) is a lay person (or sometimes a religious, other than a priest or deacon) who is authorized to assist in distributing Holy Communion during the Mass or to bring the Euharist to the sick and homebound when ordinary ministers (bishops, priests, deacons) are unavailable or when there is a pastoral need.
“Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.”
— John 6:56
